A lifelong resident of Long Beach, Valerie is a practicing realtor following a brief career as an educator in the Long Beach Unified School District. Valerie became interested in Long Beach Organic after participating in a volunteer event at Zaferia Garden. An avid cook and organic food advocate, she was immediately smitten and signed up for a plot. Having served on a variety of Boards of Directors, Valerie brings experience, connections throughout the city, and a passion for gardening to Long Beach Organic.

Tony Damico is an educator, community organizer, and non-profit leader. He co-directs Long Beach Fresh, a non-profit local food system accelerator program, is a founder of Long Beach Time Exchange, a network that promotes the sharing of skills and services between local residents. He also teaches at Long Beach City College in the Communication Studies department. His passion for community gardening comes from his belief that good food is a human right, and ought to be supported by the systems we live in – whether it’s in regard to land use for urban agriculture, healthy markets, or community learning opportunities.
Joe Corso developed a passion for composting at an early age and has been a gardener for most of his life. After several years as a gardener at the Wild Oats Garden (now Zaferia Junction), he joined LBO’s Board of Directors (2008-2015) and continues to ensure that the gardens operate smoothly as the Director of Gardens. He is also an artist and a personal chef.
