School Gardens

Long Beach Organic recently decided to expand its mission to education. Beside providing green spaces, LBO seeks to educate children and adults of all ages about the benefits of toxic-free gardens and foods. We are currently working with teachers and parents in the Long Beach area to implement more school gardens in our community. If you are interested, please call us at 562/438-9000.

THE NEW CITY SCHOOL

The New City School garden was the first Long Beach Organic school program. They have a 2,500 square-foot lot that has been converted to a beautiful garden where the kids learn once a week.

CONSTELLATION COMMUNITY MIDDLE SCHOOL

Constellation Community Middle School offers a garden elective to approximately 30 students. These students get the opportunity to design and work in our community garden
on First & Elm.

City of Long Beach Fourth District Elementary Schools

In 2002 City Councilor Dennis Carroll allocated $29,000 in discretionary funds for the development or expansion of school gardens at elementary schools in Long Beach's Fourth District. Eight of the nine elementary schools in this district have taken advantage of these funds, and LBO is serving as the primary consultant for their garden projects.
